There was quite a spectacular fire within a scrapyard in Padul on Monday the 7th of July that caused an impressive column of black smoke.
Even 16 hours after the fire was tackled the column of smoke, now not so black, could be seen from quite a distance. It was not only the smoke, but also the smell of burnt rubber etc that lingered.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire began around 18.50h, “We heard an explosion and saw flames and a lot of dense black smoke,” they said.
As a consequence of the fire, the yard was locked down and at first the owners didn’t appear to want to make any declaration (except to the police, but not to the press). However they said that the fire began in the vehicle compactor (crusher).
But this was not the first fire in this particular scrapyard because when the installations were in different hands in 2016 there was another fire.
If you are wondering which of the scrapyards it was, it’s the one on the A-4050, which is the Cabra Montes Road to Otívar from the Suspiro del Moro. In fact, I went past there the following weekend and there was still a little smoke coming from it.
