The socialist opposition branch in Motril Town Council has complained about the failed pledge made by Mayor Chamorro over funds for the municipal dog pound.
Party Spokesperson, Gádor Domínguez, pointed out that the Mayor had promised to invest 150,000 euros on this municipal infrastructure, which was badly in need of more funding. However, to date, the funding has not materialised so that the dog pound appears “abandoned and incompatible with the image of a municipality of 60,000 inhabitants.”

Spokesperson Domínguez for stated that, “Once again the Governing Board had decided to use political marketing rather than take real action.”
No further individual kennels have been provided, nor structural changes have been carried out to bring the facilities into line with Andalusian, animal-protection regulations.
Therefore, they have urged the Councillor who is responsible, Raquel Escámez, to take action. “We know that she is a sensitive persona towards animals so for this reason we trust her but she must act with decisiveness, unlock the up till now, having left the dog pond in the hands of a private, pest-control, wholly unprepared for looking after dogs.”
The socialist party, PSOE, considers that the Mayor should purchase land on the border of the installations in order to enlarge it.
Lastly, the party Spokesperson hopes that what happened last year, with animals dying from heat stroke, does not occur again owing to the crowded conditions.
