Playa Granada in Motril is starting to fill out with amenities rather than just more apartment buildings, claims the Town Council after giving the go-ahead for a pharmacy down there.
The Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, pointed out that Playa Granada has a standing population of over a thousand and four times that many in the summer period. For this reason, she considers, it’s essential for the area to have a pharmacy.

Playa Granada has approximately 3,000 dwellings, which will soon be followed by more completed by developers Molina Olea and Osuna, adding a further 270 homes.
However, and independent pharmacy on Playa Granada is only in the pipelines as it still has to go through a few administrative hoops and hurdles. There is still no company involved just the licence for a new pharmacy; like taxis and tobacconists (estancos) they are still tied down to population quotas; so you can’t just slap one down right next to another, for example.
Will there ever be a small medical centre down there? Motril has three already: one on the Avenida de Salobreña, (Centro de Salud Motril – Centro) another on Avenida Pio XII (Centro de Salud Motril – Este) and one in the north, (Centro de Salud Motril – San Antonio) on Camino de San Antonio. Arguably, as Playa Granada grows, they are going to need one.
