The body of a 66-year-old man who had gone missing was found in a small thermal pond in the Guadixarea.

The discovery was made by a hiker and phoned it in to the emergency coordination centre. The pond, known as the Poza de la Raja lies between Villanueva de las Torres and Alicún de Ortega.

The Guadix fire service was sent to help retrieve the deceased from the water, but finally the Guardia Civil mountain-rescue service (Greim) were called in as the pond is in an area of difficult access, next to the GR-6101, some 200 metres from the balneary (hot-spring health spa)

As soon as the police made a positive ID of the body, his family was given the sad news.
