Spanish police, in cooperation with the British National Crime Agency (NCA) and EUROPOL arrested five supects allegedly behind an assault on a police van carrying a British prisoner.
The attack on the police vehicle to free the prisoner occurred in October, 2023 on the Balearic island of Ibiza and the police investigation began shortly afterwards, culminating in these five arrests.

The prisoner was being taken to a dental clinic for treatment and the assailants, who carried firearms and wore bullet-proof vests, struck as he was being led out of the vehicle.
They used a motorbike and a high-end vehicle that had been stolen in the United Kingdom and bore falsified number plates.
Although the British gang members did manage to free the prisoner, it was only momentarily as he was re-arrested a few hours later.
The rescue mission had been meticulously planned and executed with the aim of freeing the British inmate from the prison in Ibiza where he was doing time for drug trafficking and money laundering on an international level.
The following day to the assault, one of the gang was arrested and several property searches were carried out, bagging 80,000 euros in cash, another vehicle that had been stolen in the UK and a sizeable quantity of drugs, forged documents and even the actual plans for the attack on the police, prisoner transport.
