Market Parking up for Lease

A plenary meeting in Almuñécar was held last week where putting out to tender the lease on the new, underground parking beneath the Municipal Market was approved.

The market itself is nearing completion but the parking beneath is already finished.

The governing party, the PP and the opposition party PSOE voted in favor, while Benavides’ Convergencia Andaluza abstained. The only party to vote against was the Almuñécar Unida para la Gente.

Councilor for Urban Planning, Javier García, regretted not having the unanimous support from all political parties, and blammed the CA and Almuñécar Unida Para la Gente for “showing so little sensitivity towards the residents who work and invest in their businesses in this area.”

It is hoped that the 25-year lease will have been awarded by the time that the market is ready for its inauguration.

The car park is on two levels and has 209 parking spaces and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The actual total of parking space is 230 but 21 have been reserved for the Town Hall itself, for its vehicles. Also within those 21 parking areas are ones that are reseved for the leasing company.

Lastly, the parking facilities has at least eight charging stations for electric vehicles.
