It is one of those cases that should not make the news for two reasons: first, because it should be the norm, and second, because good news doesn’t sell.
But precisely for that reason, it is a story that needs to be shared. The story is about a group of high-school kids from the town of Íllora, aged between 14 and 17. The incident happened when they were on their way to school early one morning. They were chatting when they saw a bundle of banknotes lying on the ground; in total, 300 euros.

There was no document that could identify the owner of the money, nor any other witnesses who could provide any clues about who dropped it. In such circumstances, anyone might have been tempted to keep it.
But these kids were honest. They picked up the 300 euros and handed them over to the Policía Local offices in Íllora, which is quite close to their school.
After that, they went to class. They might have arrived a little late, but it was for a good reason.
Meanwhile, the municipal officers reviewed the recordings from the security cameras located in the vicinity of the incident and solved the mystery. “The owner of the money was found; it had fallen out as she got out of her parked car to go to work. The woman hadn’t realised that she had lost the money until the officers handed it to her and explained how it was found,” according to the police.
Furthermore, the officers intend to visit the school to personally thank the kids for their behaviour, something that was also communicated to their families and the local community through social media.
“From the Local Police offices in Íllora, we would like to express our gratitude to a group of young people from the town, aged between 14 and 17, who, while on their way to school, found a significant amount of money on the ground in the street and subsequently handed it over to the Local Police. The officers have visited the educational centre to publicly thank the kids for their good deed, as that loss could have posed a serious economic burden to a family,” stated the police department.
