The main opposition party in Almuñécar, Convergencia Andaluza (CA) is demanding that the ruling party explains why the municipal pool remains closed after over two months.

Apparently, it is not only the municipal swimming pool that is closed but also the municipal gymnasium whilst “undergoing maintenance.”

According to the CA, it was on the 21st of February, without previous warning, that the Sports Department announced that the pool would be closed until further notice. No explanation was given.

Since then, the CA claims, the administrative silence on the affair has generated specualtion as to what the problem can be.

CA asked during a previous Plenary Meeting of the Town Council about the closure but received no response.

For this reason, the CA considers, “If it were for maintenance tasks, it should have been planned beforehand and solutions found to minimise the impact upon habitual pool users.”

The CA says that, for example, the municipal gymnasium could have been moved to other public installations such as the municipal football stadium.

Lastly, the CA says that the deterioration of the sports installation in both the municipal pool and the gymnasium were evident in the changing rooms before the closure.
