There was a traffic accident on the Fuengirola seafront road when a car ran up onto the pedestrian area and hit a restaurant terrace.
Fortunately, a pillar halted the vehicle, stopping it from being a massacre but even so several people were injured and there were also two deaths.

The accident took place around 21.30h and behind the wheel was a 45-year-old, Iranian woman, with no driving licence and who when breathalysed tested positive. In fact, the reading was almost double the permitted level.
The Policía Local in Fuengirola are investigating the accident, which had a toll of ten people injured, one of whom was a 2-year-old girl. Her father is amongst those who were injured and is said to be in a critical state. The child’s mother was also injured and her injuries are described as serious.
She is being held in custody after coming before a police court and stands accused of two charges of manslaughter, three charges of bodily harm through grave irresponsibility, one charge of dangerous driving, one DUI charge and one charge of driving a vehicle without a valid driving licence.
According to preliminary reports, the driver lost control of the car, flattened a street light and then crossed a distance of 280 metres at speed and hit the pillar at the corner of the outside dining space.
The car then bounced back and hit a parked vehicle where it came to rest. Between hitting the pillar and then the parked car she mowed down a 25-year old who was walking with his girlfriend. He died instantly.
The owner of the car that caused the accident, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, a 47-year-old Iranian woman, also died in the accident. Curiously, she did posses a driving licence. Police are trying to find out why she let the other woman drive the car even though she had no driving licence.
