Rain Damages Water Pipes

Isn't it Ironic (a-la-Alanis Morissette) that after all this rain, six villages in the Axarquía have had to use water bowsers bringing in water as their main water-supply pipe was damaged by flooding.

This is the second time that it has happened in the last four months; i.e., having to queue up with containers to fill up from a water bowser in the villages of Benamargosa, El Borge, Almáchar, Cútar, Comares and Moclinejo.

All of these villages get their water from a pipeline that crosses Río Benamargosa and when the river floods… This time, the water level reached 1.15m at noon Tuesday and by the early hours had raged past with a depth of 1.58m. Mind you, that is nothing compared with the downpour on the 13th of November when the water level reached 5.28m.

The publicly owned, water-utility company was out on Wednesday inspecting the damage, working on repairs and had managed to get the water flowing a least during lunchtime.

However, the municipal water tanks have plenty of water in them, but even so water has to be rationed in the form of nighttime cuts to the supply (from 19.00h to 08.00h the next morning).

Benamargosa Town hall pointed out that until the Health Ministry gives the approval to the water quality once reestablished, they can replenish the municipal water-storage facilities.
