Tunnel Accident Chaos

If you were unlucky enough to have to go to Málaga on the A-7 to catch a flight on Wednesday, then you probably missed it, thanks to the 24km tail-back caused by a traffic accident.

The collision occurred with the Cerrado de Calderón tunnel around 06.00h, which caused all westbound lanes to be closed – there are three.

This traffic accident not only occurred in the worst place possible (in a tunnel) but also at the worse time possible (morning rush hour). The tunnel is just before Límonar

However, owing to the efficiency of the emergency services and road-maintenance crews, by 10.00h traffic was flowing again.

The accident was caused by a van with passengers onboard, towing a trailer which hit road-maintenance machinery inside the tunnel, with workers in the process of clearing up after nightshift maintenance tasks. Fortunately, only one person was injured but there are no details to say how serious the injuries were.
