The Junta de Andalucia set up an agreement between a taxi driver and Gualchos for a service between that town and Motril. The driver has since said he won't do it anymore.
The Mayor of Gualchos-Castell de Ferro, Toñi Antequera, confirmed that the service has terminted due to the taxi driver’s unwillingness to continue, which he has informed the Transportes de la Delegación de Fomento about.

This system was set up by the Junta under the Andalucía Rural Conectada programme in 2022 as an alternative after the bus service that went vía Gualchos was shut down.
The person who provided the taxi service is from Motril and he dropped it because it was not viable, it appears. We spoke with another taxi driver from Motril and he assured us that he would not do it because it was just not worth it because of the kilometres involved – the taxi would take the Lújar road, which is a three day camel trek and a packed lunch, but it is still shorter than going to Castell then driving inland..
Whatever the case, the Junta’s Consejería de Fomento has said that it is already working to re-establish the taxi service.
The fact is that the residents of Gualchos, especially the elderly, no longer have any public transport service to connect them with the Motril, where Hospital Santa Ana is.
