Under the slogan Transforming Our Destiny,  Mayor Juan José Ruiz Joya and the Councillor for Obras Públicas y Proyectos Estratégicos, Francisco Rodríguez, explained that these were the 13 projects that have been submitted to the EU for consideration for the 15-million-euro funding available through the Strategy for the Integral Local Development programme. 

The Mayor considers that the projects are viable and not just “attractive plans on paper,” and that they are also backed by municipal funds. This is because such projects have to be initially funded by the municipal coffers to be reimbursed later by the EU.

“We shall see 30 months of intense urban transformation,” he said, pointing out that these 13 projects will join those already in motion, such as the Turismo Tropical complex on the Paseo San Cristóbal or the affordable housing for young people   next to Las Góndolas.

Some of those 13 projects include the pedestrianisation of the Avenida Costa del Sol and sorting out the traffic congestion on the Carrera de la Concepción, making it “more friendly for pedestrians and cyclists.” Also included is turning the lorry-parking area on the P-4 into the Parque de las Aguas covering 10,000 sq/m. 

Which brings us to the Parque Neurodivergente which will be on the plot of land presently occuppied by Cine Auditorio (the open-air, summer cinema next to the San Cristóbal Mercadona) with an area of 1,000 sq/m. This park is for autistic children.

The new bus station, by the way, has a budget of 3,280,956 euros which will have eight platforms and underground, public parking.

As for La Herradura… not a lot, besides sculptures around the village dedicated to Ratón Pérez (the Spanish equivalent of the Tooth Fairy).
