Almuñécar Kindergarten Fire

There was a small fire in a fuse box in a school building that required the presence of the Fire Department and the Policía Local yesterday morning.

The school in question was the CEIP Virgen de la Antigua (not far from the bus station) and the building affected is where the infants receive their schooling.

The teaching staff at this joint junion & infant school had already evacuated the pupils from the building to be on the safe side, as well as put the fire out with the school’s own fire extinguishers. Fire personnel checked that the fire was completely out whilst the police directed the traffic on Avenida Juan Carlos in front of the school.

The Head Teacher of CEIP Virgen de la Antigua, Jesús Carretero, informed parents that the school dining room wouldn’t be serving food, as it is next to where the fire was and required ventilation to dispel the smell of smoke.
