Double Trouble

One driver was caught twice within six hours for Driving Under the Influence with the second time, giving a higher alcohol-consumption reading than the first.

He was first stopped and breathalysed near Sigüenza (Guadalajara) on the A-2 autovía with 0.81 mg per litre of air expelled.

The passenger at the time took over at the controls so that the car would not be immobilised after this person was breathalysed and had given a negative reading.

However, the same car was stopped again on the N-320 within the municipality de Horche (Guadalajara) with the original driver back at the wheel. The reason that the car was pulled over because other drivers had phoned in to say that the car was being driven erratically.

The original patrol car was also summoned to where the car had been pulled over and to the officers amazement the drunk driver was back at the wheel, but this time giving a reading of 1.05 mg per litre or air expelled. They wanted the breathalyse him again to make sure but he refused. Consequently, he was issued another fine

As well as the fine, he is looking at three to six months imprisonment and will lose his licence to drive (even a moped) for between one to four years. Furthermore, refusing to take a breathalyser test he is looking at a further prison sentence of between six months to a year and losing his licence for one to four years.

As a combination of both prison sentences does not reach two year, it will be a suspended sentence. The fines and licence loss, however will mean that he won’t be driving for a while.
