Parents Arrested

The parents of a baby in Málaga who had to be hospitalised after having ingested cannabis have been arrested.

They had taken the baby to the Hospital Materno-Infantil on the 9th of February because it was unwell. After undergoing blood tests, etc, it was found that the 1-year-old gave a positive reading for traces of drugs.

Following the established protocol, the hospital issued a report to the Juzgado de Instrucción número 8 in Málaga, which opened proceedings after instructing the Policía Nacional to carry out an investigation.

Consequently, the parents, aged 30 and 31, were arrested on the 21st of February. They both made separate statements in the police station, were informed that they had been charged with neglect of parental duties (delitos de comisión por omisión y contra los derechos y deberes familiares).

Following this, they were released pending trial.

There was a similar case in November 2022 when the parents were arrested after their 11-month-old baby was hospitalised in a critical state owing to cannabis intoxication.
