A man deliberately set fire to himself at a gasolinera in Málaga and is in a critical state at the Hospital Virgen del Rocío de Sevilla.

The 41-year-old man, who has burns on 70% of his body, is being treated in the Unidad de Grandes Quemados in the said hospital, which is the burns-specialist hospital for the whole of Andalucía.

The emergency coordination centre, 112, received several calls starting at 13.35h on Saturday the 22nd to say that a man had set light to himself next to a gasolinera on the Avenida Santiago Ramón y Cajal in Granada.

They immediately despatched units from the Policía Nacional, an ambulance and the Real Cuerpo de Bomberos de Málaga, especially as this was, besides an attempted suicide, it was also a fire near a gasolinera, after all.

When the police arrived, they saw paramedics from an ambulance trying to ressucitate him. They did manage to stabilise him for a rapid transfer to Málaga’s main hospital but an air-ambulance helicopter was already on the way to ferry him to the burns hospital in Sevilla, given his very serious injuries.

There doesn’t appear to be any further information as to why he did it.
