The Real Club Náutico de Motril held the 10th Snipe Regatta, The Oseberg Challenge over the weekend of the 14th to the 16th of last month.
This year, the event that brought together over 50 competitors in the light Snipe class ended with the following winners: Juan Manuel Barrionuevo, from the Club Náutico Los Nietos de Cartagena, and Nuria Sánchez, from the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante.
The event began on Friday the 14th with moderate wind and a calm sea state, which lasted over the three days of the race. There were a total of six races where skippers and crew put their strategy, technique and coordination to the test.
The Oseberg Challenge is a trophy that pays tribute to the nautical tradition and competitiveness in the Snipe class. The regatta’s name comes from the Viking ship Oseberg, a symbol of exploration, adventure and reflects the spirit of overcoming the challenges of this competition. Since its first edition, the regatta has attracted sailors from all over Spain, consolidating itself as one of the most important events on the national circuit.
Although Barrionuevo and Sánchez had been leading all through the event, there was uncertainty about how it could turn out on the last day.
Other teams like those of Alejandro Pareja and Marta Ramírez, from the Club Náutico de Sevilla, and Carlos Martínez and María López, from the Real Club Marítimo de Melilla, looked like they could dispute the favourites’ lead during Sunday.
