Car Fires in Vélez-Málaga

There was a bit of a drama in Vélez-Málaga in the early hours of today outside a block of flats next to the Parque María Zambrano; two burning cars outside were pumping out black smoke that was entering the building.

But it was not only the smoke, but the noise because there was a series of explosion and plenty of flames, too.

When the police and fire service arrived, having received an alert around 03.10h, the first thing that the officers did was evacuate half a dozen residents, amongst them an 82-year-old woman who was suffering from smoke inhalation.

The two vehicles affected by the fire were a car and a van with the fire staring in the former before spreading to the latter.

Once the flames had been extinguished (but not before both vehicles ended up completely burnt out) the six people who had been evacuated from their flats were allowed back in, with the exception of the elderly lady who had been taken to hospital.

The Policía Local de Vélez-Málaga are investigating the cause behind the fire and have not ruled out that the fire was started intentionally.
