A worker in his 50s lost his life yesterday in Galicia when a tree fell on him.
He was an employee of a lumber company and died when the tree that he was cutting down crushed him. This occurred in the village of Rubiós, which is part of the municipality of Riós in Ourense.

It was the team foreman who informed the emergency services around 10.00h. Besides volunteers belonging to Protección Civil, the Guardia Civil and an ambulance being mobilised, an air-ambulance helicopter was also despatched to the scene.
However, the helicopter was not finally needed as he had been killed instantly by the weight of the large tree trunk.
The Mayor of Riós, Eva Barrio, said, “There is no explanation for it. The worksite was good, there was no apparent danger, and the tree was well positioned, but it fell on the worker and killed him.”
