Carchuna Vandals

The ELA of Carchuna and Calahonda has ended their Christmas holidays with a "worrying" increase in vandalism that has left instances of damage in public areas.

Among the most prominent incidents is the theft of the statue in honour of campesina during New Year’s Eve, which has emblematic symbolism and of held dearly in the semi-independent town (ELAs) of Carchuna-Calahonda.

Furthermore, the people behind these incide have taken it out on the sports facilities, leaving several cases of damage; i.e., now completely unusable ping-pong tables, vandalised public bathrooms and ripped out litter bins.

The Head of the ELA, Juan Alberto Ferrer, regrets what has happened on has called upon more civic-minded action.

“We hope that the new year will bring a positive change and that these acts of vandalism cease completely, ” adding, “Taking care of our common area is everyone’s responsibility,” he said.

But there were also incidents of this kind of behaviour during the summer, too, when vandals targeted the information panels in Carchuna Castle.
