The total popuation for all the towns and village in the valley is 23.912, compared to the 23,729 from 2023.
Padul, as has been the case in previous years has grown the most with 100 extra inhabitants, giving it 9,436 in habitants.
Dúrcal, on the other hand decreased in population by 24, dropping from 7,233 in 2023 to the actual figure of 7209.
The rest of the municipalities within the Valley de Lecrín have increase, but not by huge amounts. Villamena, for example gained 19 new dwellers giving it 1,005 inhabitants and Nigüelas grew by eleven people, giving it a total of 1,239 inhabitants.
Well, that’s not strictly true, as in my case, although registed in Nigüelas, I am now a resident of Dúrcal, so adjust that by one either way…
The municipality of Lecrín (it’s a municipality as well as an area) grew by 10 inhabitants, giving it 2,268… which had nothing to do with me!
Albuñuelas, which despite of occupying a tiny urban area is the largest municipaity in the whole valley, grew by nine inhabitants giving it a respectrable 794 locals.
Other municipalities have only altered their total population by a handful: El Pinar gained three (870) and El Valle gained only one person (937)… and his or her cat.
Curiously, although Dúrcal is officially the capital of the Valley de Lecrín, Padul is the larger town and growing faster.
