Los Guájares; a group of three villages hidden amongst the hills between the Costa Granadina and the Valle de Lecrín, hired a private security guard; a situation that went wonky.
The Town Hall hired a private security guard to patrol public buildings in september 2021 – this was to be a temporary contract covering a couple or so months. The agreement did specifically say that the contract would conclude on the 31st of December that year; i.e., the year’s end.

However, the situation rolled on until July 2022 with the guard still patrolling but without legal authorisation. The Mayor and the security guard himself pointed this out to the overseeing entity (Unidad Territorial de Seguridad Privada), which is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of companies in the sector.
The Interior Ministry fined the security company to the tune of 30,001 euros for “grave infringment,” on the 1st of June 2023.
Not happy with this result, the security entity decided to take this administrative decision before the legal system… and failed miserably. The Judge presiding over Court Nº2 in Granada considered that the guilty sentence and fine amount were in order.
So, the company took it to a national appeals court in Madrid, arguing that the contract had been automatically extended… This court rejected the appeal, as well.
But the security company has one more shot in its chamber, which is to take the affair before the Spanish Tribunal Supremo. Will it do so? It’s a well guarded secret for the moment.
