Sunday morning will see the launch of an environmental campaign on the green area along Calle Miguel Hernández where 25 carob trees will be planted.
This green area is known as the Parque de La Libertad (next to the basketball courts) and this activity is one that the whole family can enjoy.

The carob (Ceratonia siliqua) is a flowering, evergreen tree or shrub in the legume family, (Fabaceae). It is widely cultivated for its edible fruit, which takes the form of seed pods, and as an ornamental tree in gardens and landscapes. The carob tree is native to the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. Portugal is the largest producer of carob, followed by Italy and Morocco.
The good thing is that it is a hardy tree and requires little watering. The 25 trees are 1.5m high saplings. If a large number of public turn up, there are some smaller seedlings that can be planted, too.
It is hoped that all of the 25 saplings will survive, although the seedlings, obviously, are more prone to failing (around 20%).
If you miss this opportunity to plant a tree, the next environmental-programme activities will take place after the Christmas holidays, and include bird watching, hiking routes or a series of nature documentaries, among many others.
If you are thinking of attending, please let them know and how many people you will be bringing (if you are a family) so that the event can be well organised. You can do this via WhatsApp on 654 960 242.
