One woman in her 50s, after suffering all her life from being buck-toothed, decided to go to a dentist to have them corrected, despite the cost. It turned out to be a disaster.
She made up her mind to go because she had found a bargain but what she didn’t bargain for was being left with no teeth at all and a rapidly disappearing dentist.
Yes, this woman is not alone in this, as there are ten other victims of Odontologist Alejandro Krakhmaloff and his partner. By partner, we mean girlfriend, not business associate.
It all started when she went to see her normal dentist who gave her a bridge to correct her front teeth but he (or she) warned her that as her teeth were loose there would be a risk that they could fall out, if the correction was too severe.
The more drastic option was to have them removed and have them replaced with implants in both uppers and lowers. However, the quote that she was given was 20,000 euros…
Then somebody told her about the dental clinic belonging to Doctor Krakhmaloff on Calle San José, in the old town of Málaga. His webpage was impressive and this friend told her that a mutual acquaintance had had this operation done for only 9,900 euros.
So she asked for a quote at the said dental clinic. The doctor took an X-ray and told her that there were no problems with jaws’ her bone structure and then quoted 12,000 euros.
She told him that she would think about it – the quote was almost 25% more than that of the mutual acquaintance. He then told her that if she paid it in one go and before August, he would charge one thousand less.
She had this in savings but she decided to haggle a little, hoping that he would drop it to 10,000 but to her surprise he quoted 9,000, if it were in cash.
She accepted the quote but said that she would wait until after the summer as she worked directly with the public; i.e. face-to-face with customers. She gave him 7,000 up front, which turned out to be the amount that she lost.
In September he removed her teeth but he told her that she would have to wait five months before the new teeth could be inserted, so she went home toothless. She went back the next day and asked him why and he said that he had carried out a ‘bone regeneration.’ (which doesn’t exist, she later found out.)
She went back on several occasions but on each one he would give excuses until one day she went around and found the clinic closed with a notice saying “temporarily closed.” There was nothing “temporary” about it so she went to the police to report him.
The police told her that she was not the only person who had reported him and that there were ten others and that he was under investigation for fraud.
So, months later, she is left with a temporary set of dentures which fly out when she sneezes and as they move, it has given her sores on her gums.
She would probably give anything to have her buckteeth back… not to mention the 7,000 euros, of course.
