Almuñécar is aiming to promote 'buying local' to bolster businesses around town and amongst the ideas is limited free parking in the Altillo underground car park.
Mayor Juanjo Ruiz Joya presented the idea before the press, accompanied by the Councilor for Commerce, Lucía González, the Chairwoman of the Asociación de Comerciantes Sexitanos (ACOS), Remedios Rico, and Sergio Torio Torio , who heads the Communication and Marketing for Clubö, which holds the lease for the parking facilities.
The Mayor considers it a “very interesting idea” as it will allow customers to enjoy 30 minutes free parking in the Altillo car park whilst they shop locally.
Councillor Lucía González described this initiative as a “milestone” for local businesses. She said that the lack of nearby parking has been a recurring problem in Almuñécar. She also considers that it will attract shoppers from neighbouring towns.
Chairwoman Remedios Rico explained how it would work: shops and businesses will hand over parking cards to their customers that cover the first 30 minutes in the underground car park. Therefore, if the customer has been 45 minutes in the shop, he or she will ony have to pay the remaining 15 minutes.
As for the Manager of the car park, Sergio Torio, he said that this agreement is only the beginning of future joint efforts to strengthen the local economy.
