Medical Facilities Burgled

Officers from the Policía Nacional in the city of Granada arrested a man in his late 30s, suspected of breaking into medical facilities to steal drugs.

The 38-year-old man, who has a criminal record, allegedly broke a window to gain entrance to a hospital during the night. Once inside he forced the doors of four doctor’s surgeries to steal tranquilliser medication as well as keys to other departments, according to the police.

The burglary took place around two in the morning, however a security guard heard the noise caused inside and went to investigate. He came across the burglar in the area of the surgeries. He told him that the centre was closed and that he was not allowed to be there.

The response was that the burglar threw himself at the guard (according to the guard) and then fled the building.

The police inspected the scene of the crime and determined the burglar’s point of entry. They also found a discarded knife in one of the surgeries, supposed used by the thief to force cabinets.

It was only and hour and a half later that a police patrol had to deal with a disturbance in another medical centre where an individual was causing problems. The security guard told the officers that the man had turned up demanding to be seen but was informed that it was neither the time nor the place.

The officers identified the culprit and saw that he had a record of arrests. Whilst this was going on the guard received a call to say that this same individual had broken into another centre, which he passed on to the officers. The police cuffed him and took him into custody.

Note: the police report speaks of centros hospitalarios, which could be anything from general hospitals to private health centres.
