Flat Fire in Motril

The inhabitants of a block of flats in Motril had to be temporarily evacuated whilst fire personnel dealt with a fire in a 2nd-floor flat.

The emergency coordination centre, 112, received an alert around 20.00h on Tuesday night concerning a fire on Calle Sacramento.

They immediately despatched the Motril fire serivice, together with the Policía Nacional, the Policía Local and an ambulance.

Once at the scene, officers set about evacuating the occupants of the building and shutting off traffic to Calle Catalanes.

The fire was soon dealt with and people were allowed to return to their homes, except for the young couple and their child, who had to spend the night in a nearby hostal. The 32-year-old woman had been slightly affected by smoke and made her own way to the Centro Médico.

Police sources say that the fire was caused by a candle that fell onto a sofa, catching it on fire.
