Motril Port has come a long way in the last 50 years as far as handling capacity goes and is presently undergoing a massive restructuring.
Last week a huge, Norwegian cruise ship, Norwegian Getaway, docked, unleashing 4,099 passengers and 1,529 crew on Motril.

The cruise ship, which belongs to Norwegian Cruise Line, had set off from Athens, stopping over at Valleta in Malta before reaching Spanish shores at Alicante and sailing down the coast to Motril.
Visiting cruise ships is just one area where Motril Port has grown because it has also developed its logistical area, so freight numbers have increased greatly. And besides cruise ships and frieghters, there are also the ferries to North-African destinations.
Nobody would have imagined this back in 1974.
The next cruise ship to arrive will be of a very different class, because instead of size, it boasts pure elegance as only a tall ship can: the Royal Clipper will arrive on Thursday the 10th.
