The Policía Nacional are investigating a fight involving knives over a squatter in a flat in Estepona.

One of the people involved received stab wounds to the head and neck and is said to be in a serious condition.

The violent incident ended in four arrests and two people with knife wounds; one with life-threatening injuries and the other with less serious wounds.

Apparently, one of those involved were illegally occupying a flat and that a third person, presumably related to the owner, accompanied as “back up,” confronted the squatter.

The fight took place a few minutes before two in the morning of Wednesday the 2nd of this month on Calle Archidona.

The emergency call centre received an alert to say that there was a violent argument taking place between a couple. When the police arrived it was to find the blood-spattered floor and wall of the apartment.

The badly wounded individual had managed to make it down to the basement garage to get away from his attackers, losing a lot of blood along the way. He was rushed to hospital immediately because of the seriousness of the wounds and the amount of blood lost. The other injured person was inside the flat with defensive knife wounds to his hands.

The police managed to identify all those involved and under police questioning found out the cause of the violent dispute.

Apparently, the flat belongs to a woman who had lived there with her partner. When they split up, she left and her partner stayed occupying the flat; i.e., squatting there. On the night of the incident, he was in the flat with his cousin.

Suddenly a group of men (four or five) appeared actually inside the flat as they had entered via a window. There were there to physically eject the ex-partner of the woman from her property. The cousin was visiting only and wasn’t living there.

Instead of not resisting, they armed themselves with kitchen knives and faced their attackers. The majority of the group managed to escape but the two cousins caught up with one of them; the one with the neck and head wounds, who the police later found bleeding in the garage.
