The Asociación de Familiares de Enfermos de Alzheimer de Almuñécar (AFAVIDA) began their build up yesterday for the Día Mundial del Alzheimer which is held on the 21st of September each year.
World Alzheimer’s Day is a global effort to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia. It is calculated that around 55 million people across the world are affected by this terrible disease.

The Confederación Española de Alzheimer states, “The aim is to first raise awareness and then demand that the country’s administrations take dementia into consideration as a condition that requires specific attention and treatment, recognising its nature and avoiding the general formulas that are routinely used and that have been limited to applying patches to people’s needs, failing to offer the specific and concrete solution that they need.”
AFAVIDA has organised a programme of activities in the Majuelo Park to provide information; both in the form of prevention and how to deal with helping a loved one who suffers from this disease and the burden put on those around them.
Note that AFAVIDA has also set up a stand in the Plaza de La Independencia in La Herradura.
