Melicena Mains Water

A gaggle of politicians was present in Melicena because work to replace the mains pipeline for this coastal village is about to begin.

The Chairman of the Mancomunidad de la Costa Tropical, Rafael Caballero, accompanied by the Mayor of Sorvilán, Pilar Sánchez, the First Councillor for Melicena, Manuel Moya and the Head of Aguas y Servicios, Alejandro Jurado, inspected the municipal water tank which feeds the higher part of Melicena.

Chairman Rafael Caballero explained that they were going to replace about 50 metres of iron pipeline which has suffered corrosion over the passage of time, deteriorating its efficency to such an extent that there is not enough water pressure in the pipe to supply the upper housing.

The old iron pipe is going to be replaced with 110mm HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) which the Chairman Caballero says “better respects the environment.”

The work has a budget of 17,000 euros and will take three weeks, paid for by the Mancomunidad, which, after all, is the sole reason for its existence; i.e., a collective of municipalities to handle their common mains water and sewage disposal needs.
