Stormy Night!

Last night saw a storm coming in off the Mediterranean bringing thunder and lightning and very welcome rain.

It wasn’t only on the coast that it was felt because up in inland Granada rain fell accompanied by the bangs-&-flashes show around four in the morning.

We always get these end-of-summer downpours, leaving behind the smell of wet tarmac and mixed scents released from the countryside, especially mountain shrubs.

Talking of wet tarmac, the number of accidents will increase because of the rubber and grease that has built up during the dry summer mixes with rainwater turning road surfaces into skating rinks until the roads have dried out, which doesn’t take long, admittedly.

Wind gusts reached just under 60 km/h around two in the morning according to the small weather station at the Base Aérea de Armilla.

The Spanish weather agency, Aemet (Agencia Estatal de Meteorología) has activated a yellow-warning state for today in the provinces of Cádiz and Córdoba, and strong coastal winds in Almería from 14.00h until midnight, producing 3-metre waves.

Humidity along the Costa Tropical will be pronounced.
