Rainfall in the Sierra Nevada caused the Rio Grande in Trevélez to surge, which could have ended in tragedy.
The flood water caused it to break its bank, dragging down branches and earth from along its course. When this was taking place about 150 people were paddling in a prepared area of the river.
A local shepherd saved the day who warned the families to get out of the river as a wall of water was on its way down.
Mayor Adrián Gallegos said that the river flow had become damned further up from accumulated debris before the weight of the water burst through it.
Increíble que se haya dado aviso desde un pastor arriba en la sierra y hayan salido a tiempo la gente. Un milagro????
