Maro Drinking Water Restored

Eight months after the residents of Maro (Nerja) were told that their tap water was unsafe for human consumption, owing to levels of natural radioactivity, the mains water has been given a clean bill of health.

The normal population of this municipal dependency is around 800 but with the arrival of summer tourists, the figure is much higher, so this news, even if it is in the last fortnight of August, is welcome news.

The news was issued in a joint communiqué by the Nerja Councillor for Infrastructure, Alberto Tomé, and the First Councillor for the village, Encarnación Moreno.

The problem was solved by connecting up the village to the Nerja water supply, costing approximately 600,000 euros to put in place.

A water pipe was laid down covering a distance of 2.6 km from the roundabout next to Urbanización Fuente del Badén to the roundabout near Río del Sanguino. The new system also required a small pumping station.

If residents have any questions about the arrangement they can use the free-phone number for Aguas de Narixa which is 900 813 810 (manned 24 hours every day of the week) or alternatively, visit Aguas de Narixa‘a office on a Nº11 Calle Málaga between 09.00h and 13.00h.
