The Policía Local de Vélez-Málaga carried out a sweep of illegal hawkers in the municipalities, confiscating, amongst other items, 330 football shirts.
The false football shirts had the colours and logos of several popular football teams, which were on sale at prices well below those of the genuine product.
The Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez (PP), praised the police for their work and emphasised the Town Hall’s pledge to protect the consumer rights and fight against illegal trading within the municipallity.
A spokesperson for the Policía Local de Vélez-Málaga recommended consumers to only buy products in authorised establishments and to avoid offers that were “too good to be true.”
Editorial comment: the police carry out sweeps once in a while but the hawkers are ignored by the police most of the year, not only in Vélez-Málaga but in just about every coastal town in Andalucia. It seems that when a Mayor needs a bit of publicity, he or she orders a sweep.
