A routine, Policía Nacional patrol came across drug smugglers after landing four tonnes of hashish on a beach in Carchuna Wednesday morning.

It was at 04.00h when the officers saw something suspicious going on (the coming and going of vehicles) near the castle/fort. When the officers approached the drug runners who were in the act of loading the drugs into a waiting vehicle, they scattered.

According to the Policía Nacional, the bust netted 3,800 kg of hashish, distributed between 110 waterproof packages, all of which had already been loaded into a vehicle that was abandoned when the drug runners escaped.

According to the police, their forensic team were able to lift prints from the vehicle and they have traced the owner of the vehicle. It was neither stolen or hired out.
