Teenager’s Body Recovered

The body of a 17-year-old lad who had disappeared off a beach in Murcia whilst with a group of friends was located by lifeguards off La Manga beach.

The victim had gone swimming off a beach between Cabo de Palos and La Manga, in Murcia on Monday.

He had gone into the water and his friends, seeing that he had not returned, had alerted the lifeguards on duty, who carried out the first sweep of the sea off the beach on jet-skis but to no avail.

So they called for help from the emergency services and a helicopter was despatched to search the area but again, to no avail.

The waters off Playa de las Amoladeras (where Hotel Entremares is) have a reputation for strong currents. Furthermore strong winds have been blowing since Sunday and on the day of his disappearance, a red flag was flying there.

The search continued Tuesday with the Guardia Civil using drones and deploying their special divers (Grupo de Especialistas de Actividades Subacuáticas).

This was when the body was found in the water, off Playa La Manga, and brought to shore to await the coroner to issue a death certificate so that it could be taken to the morgue to await an autopsy.
