Around 50 people had to be temporarily evacuated from their homes in Morche (Torrox) in the early hours of yesterday.

The fire broke out in a single-storey house on the N-340 where it passes through Morche. Several eyewitnesses phoned in the incident to 112 just before one in the morning.

The emergency control centre despatched the Policía Local, , the Guardia Civil, the Malaga fire service and a 061 ambulance.

Fire department sources say that the fire started on an outside patio and that the house only suffered smoke damage, as did the house next to it.

Out of precaution, the Policía Local asked about 50 residents of a nearby block of flats to evacuate whilst the fire was being dealt with. This being the summer, most of them were still up at that time.

Nobody required medical assistance.
