A Weekend of Road Accidents

There's definitely more traffic on the road along and to the coast, which can been seen by the number of accidents this weekend.

One person was injuried on the N-340 just up from the Mateano bend, leaving Almuñécar in the direction of La Herradura.

According to the emergency coordination centre, 112, the accident took place around 12.15h on Saturday.

The driver, for reasons unknown, had lost control of the vehicle and turned over on this very tight bend . The car travelling behind it couldn’t avoid hitting the car, which had come to rest on its roof in the middle of the road, and ran into it.

That same day, on the A-44, where it passes through the municipality of Padul, a car caught fire.

That same Saturday, a motorbike, traffic-police officer lost his life near Rincón de la Victoria when he ran into a car. This occurred around 14.05h

The 54-year-old victim was on his way back to the police station after having completed his shift when on Avenida Axarquía de la Torre de Benagalbón, he ran into the side of a car for reasons unknown.

Then Sunday, shortly after midday, four cars were involved in a pile up on the A-44 but this time further down towards the coast, opposite Lanjarón on the southbound lanes. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. The tailback was kilometric.

Editorial comment: if you regularly travel up that autovia, as I do, you would be surprised to see the number of scorch marks on the hardshoulders where cars have gone up in flames. It would be interesting to know how many of them were electric/hybrid.
