Sierra Nevada Record

The Sierra Nevada ski station reports that it has had its best season ever, despite the late arrival of snow and 14 days closed because of high winds.

The ski station took 46 million euros whereas the previous ski season it took 45 million. The pre-pandemic record was 41.8m euros.

The Junta bigwig who chairs Cetursa (the company that runs the ski station) Rocío Díaz, said that the company had registered an EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation and Amortization) of 12.7 million euros, which she said would be reinvested in the installations.

The money spent on the ski installatsion have been over 90 million, used, amongst other things, to install a new chair lift.

Finally, this season also closed with a higher number of visitors, ascending to 1,100,945 and a record number of non-skiers, too.

But the Sierra Nevada also has a summer season which begins on the 13th of July and lasts until the 25th of August. The Al Ándalus cable car and the Veleta chair lift will be operative and there will be activities in the Mirlo Blanco area and the heated pool belonging to the Club Montebajo.

The hiking routes and electric bicycle routes are part of the high-mountain, open-air programme, as is the astro-tourism because what better place is there to see the stars, especially on the Noche de las Perseidas (meteorite shower). There is even musical concerts provided by the group Apache in collaboration with the Música y Danza de Granada Festival.

These are definitely good ideas that will get you away from the heat of summer – take a coat for the evenings!
