Playa El Pozuelo in Taramay (Almuñécar) has become Playa Rosa in support of the AECC cancer association.
Councillor for Beaches, Lucía González, explained that the idea is to provide awareness and information about cancer, as well as to be a source of funding for this very valuable association.

Both the Regional and Provincial Heads of the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, José Javier García Montero and Roberto Talavera, respectively, were present at the inauguration, as was the local Head of the AECC, Conchi García.
Councillor González explained that her department had chosen Playa Pozuelo because it is small in size, but one with all the normal beach facilities and very popular.
The Regional Chairman of the AECC, García Montero explained that cancer has a 70% survival rate and that the kind most prevalent amongst women was breast cancer and for men it is rectal cancer. However, he emphasised that during summer special care must be given to avoid skin cancer through over exposure to the sun.
The AECC information kiosk near the beach will have a group of dermatologist all through the summer to check moles for any beach goer that requests it.
