From the beginning of the month until the 15th, 332 Alcampo supermarkets all over Spain will be hosting Oxfam Intermón, Fair-Trading products.
Comercia Justo, as it is called in Spanish, is essentially an alternative trading organisation consisting of equal partnership between developing-regions producers and first-world importers, shops, labelling organisations, and consumers.
The idea is designed to “humanise” the trading process so that third-world producers can literally obtain a fair price for their goods, instead of prices imposed by multi-national, food-supply chains.
Alcampo will cede space for 22 products of this kind belonging to Tierra Madre de Oxfam Intermón. Alcampo says that this demonstrates its support for the Goal 12—Ensuring Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns, belonging to the UN.
For example, Alcampo will also offer product sampling so that shoppers can see the quality and advantages of fair trading with Africa, Asia and Latin America, which in turn improves working conditions and respects the environment.
