Beach Palms Pruned

The Department for Gardens and Parks belonging to Almuñécar Town Hall have been busy pruning the clumps of palm trees on its beaches.

ALM Beach Palm Pruning JA24They normally leave the ones on the beach till last because the ones along the streets drop their seeds, which makes a mess and could cause somebody to slip over and do themselves an injury. Seeds falling on the beach are not a problem.

Sorting out the thousands of palm trees in public gardens and parks is a long and arduous task as they begin at the end of June and are still at it, explained the Head of the department, Sr. Ferrón.

In case you are wondering just how many palm trees there are with in the municipality, there are around 10,000 palm trees of different varieties, chief amongst which are the Washingtonia which can reach a heigh of 20 metres.
