Did you know that Torrenueva Costa's suspension bridge, completed two years ago, which crosses from one clff to another has won an award?

And not just any award but rather the Mejor Sendero Homologado de España 2023, which was bestowed by the Federación Española de Deportes de Montaña y Escalada (FEDME) in other words, a national-level award.

The Mayor of Torrenueva Costa, Plácido Lara, went to collect the award at the XXVII Encuentro Anual de la Montaña, which was held in Madrid at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee.

It was the Granada branch of the federation that put Torrenueva Costa forward for the regional award but it went past that stage and was selected instead for the national award competing against nine other candidates.

The bridge itself is only one feature along the nine kilometres of footpath across the cliff tops, nevertheless this feature is said to be the only cliff-top, suspended footbridge on the Mediterranean.
