Officers from the Policía Nacional in Granada have arrested a woman, accused of leaving her three children alone without supervision.

SPN UFAMThe incident unfolded yesterday afternoon when the police received a call from staff at a medical centre in the city of Granada requesting the presence of police officers.

A woman had arrived there showing obvious signs of being high and with a young child in tow. According to the medical staff, she was having trouble remaining on her feet without collapsing.

The officers arrived and questioned the woman who reacted aggressively in her replies. She was also uttering things that didn’t make sense, but what the officers did glean was that she had two other children back at home unattended. The father of the children worked abroad.

The police transferred the three minors to the police station where other officers specialised in family affairs (UFAM) took charge of them, providing food, as the children said that they hadn’t eaten that day. In the meantime, arrangements were being made to have the children temporarily located in a Centro de Menores run by the Junta de Andalucía.

The father was informed by phone of the situation. The mother, who has no criminal record, was placed in custody awaiting an appearance before a magistrate.
