A young man in his 30s died last weekend bathing off Playa de La Malagueta, making it the second water-related death in 48 hours within Málaga Province.

The first death was that of a 70-year-old man last Friday in a swimming pool in Benalmádena. The incident took place in a private pool on Calle Olivar in Arroyo de la Miel around 14:45h.

The later beach incident was reported around 22.15h on Sunday the 9th on the Playa de La Malagueta when the emergency call centre, 112, received calls alerting to a possible case of drowning.

Medical staff practiced CPR on the victim but to no avail and finally reported his death, which activated the protocol for the presence of a coroner so that the body could be removed.
