Air Europa has just signed an accord with the rail-travel company Iryo to work together making flying out of Madrid easier.
The fact is that if you want to fly to the States or Central/South America, as well as many European destinations, you have to fly out of Madrid.
Of course, you can always book a connecting flight from Málaga or Granada, for example, but what if you can buy one ticket that combines a high-speed train to Madrid and the flight out of there to your destination?
Well, starting September, you will be able to, thanks to this accord signed between Iryo CEO, Simone Gorini, CEO Air Europa, Jesús Nuño de La Rosa in the main Madrid railway station, Antorcha.
At present, it won’t make it any cheaper than doing it together but when things get going, both companies will work on this, making it not only easier (because it’s a one-ticket purchase) but also cheaper.
Furthermore, travellers will have assistance in the case of delays or cancellations as they will be considered, “connection passengers.”
Presently, Iryo trains connect Madrid with eleven cities: Barcelona, Tarragona, Zaragoza, Cuenca, Valencia, Albacete, Alicante, Málaga, Antequera, Córdoba y Sevilla, and Air Europa has 33 destinations in Europe and 21 in the USA and Latin-America.
Finally, in 2025 there will be a high-speed, rail connection between Barajas Airport and Madrid.
So, whether you’re eco-minded and would prefer to connect with a train that has far lower carbon emissions than internal flights, or because you prefer a one-ticket rail-flight arrangement instead of having to tackle two tickets, and no guarantees should one of them fail, then this might be the sort of idea that could interest you.
