OK, it's normally the other way round but that's not what happened in the Basque Lands on Monday because the sofa fell on him.
An unfortuntely gentleman, aged 64 had to be placed in the ICU at the Hospital Donostia after a sofa, thrown out of a window, landed on him as he walked along a street.
The gentleman who supplied the flying sofa was a 21-year-old squatter in a flat on Calle Ubitxa in Eibar (Guipúzcoa).
The Basque regional police, the Ertzaintza arrested him and he stands charged with grievous bodily harm through negligence.
Fortunately for him J.A.G is now in a stable condition and his life is not in danger.
The sofa, however, died upon impact.
The incident took place around 09.00h Monday morning. The victim, as is his custom, was on his way to buy bread and had no intention of obtaining furniture. His morning mission was interrupted by the sofa, which had fallen three floors, hitting him squarely on the head, knocking him unconscious.
His was immediately rushed to the said hospital. According to the Town Hall, by the time that he arrived at the hospital he had lost a lot of blood but doctors had managed to stabilise his condition and by today he had been moved to a ward.
While the victim was being bundled into an ambulance, the police interviewed eye witnesses, who all indicated the same person as the culprit, so they went to the third floor, identified the suspect and then arrested him, which would have been a perfect time for the owner of the dwelling to get in and change the locks because the 21-year-old man would soon have alternative accommodation.
