The motion proposes the twinning of Almuñécar with Estepona, which the Mayor considers is justified because of similarities between the two municipalities.
Mayor Ruíz Joya said, “there is no doubt that both townships possess common characteristics, purposes and attributes that have existed historically which have consolidated into a kindred personality.”
He emphasised that both towns began their existence as a Phoenician settlement, passing into the hands of the Romans – both towns half Roman-era, fish-salting archaeological sites and in the Andalusí period underwent a notable development.
Mayor Juan José Ruiz Joya concluded that bringing citizens of different towns together has special relevance and transcendence in today’s world.
